Terrains
"Terrains" is an ongoing project involving locales in Mumbai. It began at the start of the Covid-19 outbreak and has since been put on hold until the India lockdown ends (hopefully first week in May). Some of the shots are composites, others are processed in ways to present "ordinary" Mumbai in more artistic ways. The common theme which binds these images, despite any major aesthetic differences, is that of the lone figure. Most of my subjects are photographed without their knowledge, as what you'd see in a lot of street photography I've shot over the years. What I've discovered is that photographing the lone or central figure (where any other subjects play secondary roles) presents a challenge in a city of 18+ million people, especially in large open spaces. But I've found a near-perfect beach locale where I can harness the vastness in my frame. I'll be returning in the coming weeks (if the government allows) to continue to shoot Terrains along with more advanced composited images.
